EPSILON SRL is a small enterprise based in Naples, Italy, operating in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services. EPSILON SRL was founded in 2000 by a group of researchers of the University of Naples and it is now owned by 7 associates, with both engineering and business background. In addition to associates, it has now 13 employees, most of them holding a degree in computer science while 3 of them hold a PhD degree.

EPSILON business model includes consulting services, systems and applications development, and technology transfer programs. EPSILON skills are in web, security, and networking technologies. EPSILON strategy has been successful in combining a market oriented approach that helped it to grow to €400k turnover in 2008, with a strong focus on research activities and cutting edge technologies. Main clients include: Indesit Company S.p.A., European leader in household appliances manufacturing; AICA, that is the Italian member organisation of the ECDL consortium; the Division of Italian Ministry of Culture that manage the famous Pompeii archaeological site; University of Naples Federico II and University of Naples Parthenope, which are respectively the biggest and the fastest growing Universities in Southern Italy.

Main projects delivered include: fast software prototype development for Indesit new product line of home appliances; EcdlAuditing, a web based platform for the quality management of the Italian ECDL Test Centers (that are approximately 3.000 with millions of tests handled); Olimpiadi Italiane di Informatica (IOI), a web based platform for the Italian IOI (International Olympiad in Informatics); development of the Internet portal of the Parthenope University; member of European project STREAM (FP7-ICT- 216181) to realize a streaming middleware based over Complex Event Processing technologies able to elaborate in real time massive amount of data; leader and coordinator of European project MeeTeach (Eurostars Programme E!4694) that aims at developing an innovative video-conferencing and collaborative platform based on emerging open communications standard.

Key personnel

Danilo De Mari is the head of EPSILON business development department. He holds a Master degree in Internet Business from SDA Bocconi and is qualified as Chartered Accountant. He sits in several boards of technology companies, including one of the leading Venture Capital firms in Italy.

Luigi Romano is one of the co-founders of EPSILON. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Technology of the University of Naples ``Parthenope'', in Italy. He is an expert in system security and dependability. In FP7, he is the Technical Coordinator of the ``INcreasing Security and Protection through Infrastructure Resilience'' (INSPIRE, http://www.inspire-strep.eu) project, one of the Principal Investigators of both the INSPIRE INCO and the ``INfrastructure for heTErogeneous, Resilient, SEcure, Complex, Tightly Inter-Operating Networks'' (INTERSECTION, http://www.intersection-project.eu) project, and the Technical Lead (for EPSILON) of the ``Scalable Autonomic streaming middleware for Real-Time Processing of Massive Data Flows'' (STREAM, http://www.streamproject.eu) project. He is a member of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA, http://www.enisa.europa.eu) expert group on Priorities of Research On Current and Emerging Network Technologies (PROCENT).
